OnePlus Q1 TVs India – Sound Features Introduction
OnePlus has recently debuted their Q1 TV range in India. Like all OnePlus products, they have created a tremendous buzz in the market. The OnePlus Q1 series has some serious technical specifications and looks to be the flagship killer of TVs like their high end mobile phones have been for over half a decade in India now. Today, we will look at the audio and sound features of the OnePlus Q1 TV range and explain all the technicalities related to them. We will also check to see how the audio specifications of the OnePlus TV range matches up with other industry players and whether this TV range is worthy of your attention especially if you are an audiophile.
OnePlus Q1 TVs India – Sound Features Comparison Table
In the first OnePlus TV launch, two models have been released – the OnePlus Q1 and the OnePlus Q1 Pro. Both these models have the same screen size of 55 inches. The TVs however have a different feature set and are also priced differently with the Q1 Pro being about INR 30,000 more than the Q1. The feature set is different in almost all respects and this is no different when it comes to sound.
OnePlus Q1 TVs India – Sound Features – the Sound Bar
Probably the most striking thing about the audio on the OnePlus Q1 and the OnePlus Q1 pro is that the sound is delivered via speakers which reside in an external soundbar that is natively available with the TV. By making a Soundbar the primary mode of delivering audio, OnePlus have been able to improve the overall design of the TV, making it sleeker. The other advantage of the soundbar is that it can pack more of a punch when it comes to hardware and this is amply demonstrated by OnePlus
By far the most striking thing about the Soundbar which has been talked about is the fact that Soundbar is retractable and automatically drops down everytime the TV is turned on. The advantage of having a soundbar is that the speakers can be made to face towards the front. In most LED TVs, the speakers are downwards facing and this does not direct the sound towards the viewers. We foresee a lot of future TVs taking this design cue from OnePlus and making their speakers forward facing. Everytime the TV is turned on, the sound bar drops and a few LED lights flash while this happens, making it a small spectacle. The retraction of the soundbar when the TV is not in use makes the TV look sleeker. However, we are not sure if that is completely necessary. Hopefully the retraction mechanism itself is not prone to malfunction.
One the OnePlus Q1 Pro TV, the Soundbar has a total of 8 speakers. This includes 4 full range speakers, 2 tweeters and 2 woofers. A combination of these speakers enables the Soundbar to produce a full range of frequencies which provides a well rounded listening experience. The OnePlus Q1 series also has Dolby Atmos technology on-board. Dolby Atmos enables the speakers to produce sound based on where the action is taking place on-screen. This makes the listening experience more immersive and engaging.
Both the OnePlus Q1 and the Q1 pro deliver a total sound output of 50W. This is an impressive number when you consider that most high end Televisions by Sony and Samsung produce a sound output of 40 Watts only. With this impressive sound output, it is guaranteed that you will not have any trouble in terms of loudness. The sound output is enough to fill a medium to large sized room. Now that we know that the TV is loud enough, lets find out if the sound delivered is of high quality.
OnePlus Q1 TVs India – Sound Features – Sound Quality
The OnePlus Q1 TV has 4 speakers in all, while the Q1 Pro has 8 total speakers. The 8 total speakers include 4 full range speakers, 2 tweeters and 2 woofers to cover the entire audio spectrum. Tweeters are specialized speakers which are good at delivering sounds of high frequencies. Woofers on the other hand are specifically made to deliver lower frequency sounds, commonly known as bass.
The combination of different types of speakers ensure that the OnePlus TVs have an impressive depth in the sound that is produced. If you are listening to music, you will not be disappointed by the overall volume and range of the sound that is produced.
What we can point out however is that the sound is not of the highest clarity, especially at lower frequencies. The bass at times appears muddy. At very high frequencies as well, the clarity of sound could have been better. These are minor points of feedback however and the overall sound experience of the OnePlus TVs is well rounded and impressive.
OnePlus Q1 TVs India – Sound Features – Comparison
Now lets compare the feature set and quality available on the OnePlus Q1 TV series with the competition. First thing to compare is the total sound output. The total sound output from the OnePlus TVs comes in at 50W. To give you a comparison, the Sony Bravia 55 inch OLED TV KD-55A8F which costs almost 1.8x of the OnePlus Q1 Pro has a sound output of 50W as well. A Sony Bravia that is in the same range as the OnePlus Q1 Pro – the KD-55X7500F has a total sound output of 20W. There are currently no TVs which have a higher sound output than the OnePlus Q1 series. In this respect then, you are getting the best in class sound.
When it comes to the number of speakers available on the unit, OnePlus has again done a fantastic job and is best in class. The OnePlus Q1 Pro has 8 speakers in total – 4 full range speakers, 2 Tweeters and 2 woofers. The combination of these 8 speakers provides a well rounded sound which sounds good at all frequency ranges. Along with this, the Q1 series also features Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos is a technology that enables the speakers to produce sound based on where it should be coming from on your TV screen. This makes the listening experience more realistic as the sound seems to be produced from a particular part of the TV where the action is taking place.
An advanced version of this technology is present in very high-end TVs like the Sony Bravia OLED TV KD-55A8F. There this technology is called Acoustic Surface Technology where the TV screen has actuators which vibrate the screen at the place where the action is taking place. This combined with a subwoofer produces deep, powerful bass. The OnePlus TVs with the Dolby Atmos technology on-board do a good job at making the sound more engaging.
OnePlus Q1 TVs India – Sound Features – Conclusion
Overall, the Sound from the OnePlus Q1 series of TVs is very impressive. The total sound output of 50W is class leading. The trick of the Soundbar dropping every time is cool, we only hope that it remains durable. Speakers capable of producing different frequencies of sounds make the listening experience richer and the addition of Dolby Atmos makes it immersive and engaging. While the TVs might be considered premium, looking at only the Sound features, we would have to say they are a bargain since they provide features on par with the highest end of TVs.
